Thunderstorm & hail warnings issued, light to moderate rain likely in many places today

Even as light rain was reported in various parts of the State with snowfall in the higher reaches on Sunday, the State meteorological centre has issued orange and yellow warnings for Monday.

The State meteorological centre has issued an orange warning (alert) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lighting/hail likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State on Monday. It has also issued a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning likely to occur at isolated places in the plains of the State today. In addition to this, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at many places in the districts of the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning/hail likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 30 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Monday.

Meanwhile light rain was reported in various parts of the State on Sunday with 14.5 millimetres in Thal, 13.5 millimetres in Didihat, six millimetres each in Nainbagh and Mana, four millimetres in Harshil, three millimetres each in Kedarnath and Badrinath, and 2.5 millimetres each in Joshimath and Uttarkashi. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places on Monday were 32.3 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 32 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22 degrees Celsius and 9.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21 degrees Celsius and 13.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.

It will be recalled that according to the meteorological centre, the State is forecast to witness a three-day spell of rain in the plains and lower reaches coupled with snowfall in the higher reaches due to western disturbance. The weather activity is likely to peak on Monday.
