Thunderstorms and rain likely in mountain districts today

Even as temperatures continue to remain above normal in various parts of the State, rain is likely to provide some relief in the mountainous regions on Friday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts today. Very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 36 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius respectively.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 34.7 degrees Celsius and 17.5 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 36.4 degrees Celsius and 14.3 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22.4 degrees Celsius and 9.2 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar, 21.4 degrees Celsius and 10 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to very light rain was reported in some places with three millimetres in Devidhura, 2.5 millimetres in Natela, 1.1 millimetre in Pithoragarh and trace rainfall in Tehri and Mussoorie.
