Thunderstorms with hail and squall likely in many parts of State today

The State meteorological centre has issued alerts regarding the possibility of thunderstorms with hail and squalls in all districts of the State today. The forecast comes at a time when the maximum temperature in Dehradun neared 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday. The centre has issued an orange alert regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, hail and squall (wind speed 50-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Tehri, Dehradun, Pauri Haridwar, Udham Singh and Nainital districts on Sunday. The centre has also issued a yellow alert (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, hail and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in the districts on Sunday.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is likely to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky today. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, hail and squall (50-60 kmph gusting up to 70 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are forecast to be about 40 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Saturday were 39.2 degrees Celsius and 22.8 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.4 degrees Celsius and 21.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 26.1 degrees Celsius and 16.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 28.8 degrees Celsius and 17.9 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Light rain was also reported in some parts of the State on Saturday with 4.5 millimetres in Uttarkashi and 2.5 millimetres in Thalisain.
