Tiger kills woman collecting firewood in Dhikuli jungle

A woman from Dhikuli village in Ramnagar was killed by a tiger when she and other women had gone into the jungle to collect firewood on Tuesday. The partially eaten body of the woman was found after a search operation. The group of women were collecting firewood when a tiger dragged one of them identified as 55-year-old Kaushalya Rawat. The other women reached the village and informed others. The Forest department personnel and villagers conducted a search for the woman and found her partially eaten body. The woman’s death angered the villagers who were placated by sub divisional magistrate Rahul Shah, Corbett Tiger Reserve deputy director Rahul Mishra and other officials. The police took possession of the woman’s body and sent it for post mortem examination. Corbett director Saket Badola said that camera traps have been put in place to monitor the tiger while the departmental team has stepped up patrolling in the area. The woman’s family has been provided one-third of the compensation amount in advance. In addition to this, the villagers have been advised to not venture into the forest area, he said.
