PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Ramnagar

The body of a tigress was found in the Dhela range of Corbett Tiger Reserve here on Sunday. Senior officials reached the site on being informed about the discovery of the big cat carcass and inspected it along with the surroundings.

Corbett director Saket Badola informed that the tigress had been found dead in a part of the Dhela range which is comparatively close to a populated area. All the body parts of the tigress were found intact. Badola said that traces of elephants and tiger movement were also spotted near the carcass of the tigress.

Considering this, it is being surmised that the tigress possibly died following a struggle with another wild animal. The actual cause of the tigress’ death will be known after the post mortem report is received. The team of veterinarians Dr Dushyant Sharma and Dr Rajiv Kumar conducted the autopsy and collected samples to be sent for further examination to the Wildlife Institute of India. The carcass was later destroyed. The Corbett authorities are investigating the incident, officials informed.
