Infighting suspected to be cause of big cat’s death

A tigress was found dead in Ramnagar on the occasion of Global Tiger Day on Saturday. The Corbett Tiger Reserve authorities took the body of the big cat and destroyed it after a post mortem examination was conducted. Locals informed the department in the morning about the body of a tigress under a bridge in the Sanvalde village in Ramnagar block.
The Corbett director Dhiraj Pandey and other officials reached the site on receiving the information. Pandey said that prima facie the death of the tigress appears to have been caused by fighting with another big cat as the tigress also appeared injured in various parts of the body.
The age of the tigress is estimated to be eight to nine years. Veterinarians of the Corbett Tiger Reserve conducted the post mortem examination and kept the viscera secure. The carcass of the big cat was later destroyed as per the rules.
