A tigress which had strayed into human habitation was successfully rescued by the Forest department. The department has kept the big cat under observation. The Terai west divisional forest officer Prakash Chand Arya informed that at about 7:30 AM on Thursday, the residents of Bail Pokhra village in the Bannakheda range informed the department that a tiger had entered the area.
The department team reached the village while senior officials were also informed about the matter. A team of veterinary doctors from the western circle and Corbett tiger reserve worked for about eight hours before succeeding in tranquilising the tigress. As per the rules of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, the tigress was brought to the Forest department compound where the team of veterinarians administered a thorough health check and found the big cat to be healthy.
Arya said that talks are being held at the high level regarding releasing the tigress back into the wild. The big cat will be released safely into the jungle after orders to the effect are received from the higher level, he added.
