The Dehradun police were able to prevent a youth from committing suicide by taking timely action. The police in Rishikesh informed the special operation group, Dehradun Rural on Saturday that Vikasnagar resident Amit Kumar (name changed) had left his home following a disagreement with his family members and that his mobile phone location had been traced to Rishikesh.
The SOG Rural in-charge directed two police constables to search for the person at his last known mobile phone location. The police also contacted the family of the man and got the license plate number of his motorcycle and his photograph, which were forwarded to the police personnel. The police constables ascertained that the location of the man was Lakshmanjhula. They reached the site and started looking for his motorcycle which was found parked at the Munikireti parking lot. In the meantime, the family members of the man were repeatedly informing the police that the man was standing on the Ganga Ghat and making a video call to his wife in which he was talking about jumping into the river.
The policemen searched for him along the river and found a man standing on the Ghat and talking on the phone. They matched his appearance with the photo they had and ascertained that he was Kumar. The police constables got him involved in a conversation and prevented him from jumping into the Ganga. The police then brought him to the Rishikesh Kotwali. The man’s family members were informed and he was later handed over to them. The family members appreciated the work of the Dehradun police and thanked the police personnel for their timely and effective action which prevented the man from attempting suicide.
