Tomato prices likely to cool down in 15 days

Sunday, 02 July 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

With the buyers still digging deep in their pockets for buying tomatoes in Dehradun, the senior inspector of the    Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) Ajay Dabral said on Saturday that the exorbitant prices of tomatoes which have reached a whopping Rs 100 per kilogram are expected to start cooling  down  in a fortnight. He said that the prices of this popular vegetable surging up for the past few weeks have really been affecting the consumers.

Asked to explain why he hopes that the prices of tomatoes would come down in a fortnight, he said that the increasing supply would bring the prices down. “The tomato prices have shot up due to the dipping supply in the market. Things will look up as soon as the volume of supply goes up.  I expect that the prices will come down on an average of 25 per cent as compared to the present prices in a fortnight or so,” he said.

He further said that the supply would be stable in the markets due to the expected improvement in supply from some states like Karnataka and the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in the coming days.

He informed that Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are the two leading states which can help the country come out of the shortage of supply problem.
