Top scientists of country to converge in Doon
CM to inaugurate workshop for capacity building of women researchers & Dr Nityanand centre at Doon varsity today

With an objective of enhancing the skills and competence of women scientists and researchers of Uttarakhand, a ‘professional advancement programme for Indian women researchers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) would be organised in Doon University. The two day programme which is being organised under the aegis of the Department of Sciences and Technology (DST) of Government of India would be inaugurated by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday. Informing about the programme, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Doon University Surekha Dangwal said on Wednesday that top scientists of the country would participate in the programme in which they would guide the women researchers of Uttarakhand in eight technical sessions. She said that it is a matter of great pride that the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) of DST has selected Doon University for the programme. “This endeavour will give ample opportunities to women scientists to further upgrade their knowledge and skills in the field. The programme is in sync with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing skills, incentive and resources to budding women scientists,’’ she said.
The VC further informed that 44 women scientists and researchers have confirmed their attendance for the programme. A cultural programme would also be organised for the participants and eminent scientists on Thursday evening in which the students of theatre and folk performing arts of the university would present a dance drama on Nanda Raj Jat Yatra. Former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat would be the chief guest in the cultural evening.
CM Dhami to inaugurate Dr Nityanand Himalayan research & study centre
The VC further added that CM Dhami would inaugurate the building of the Dr Nityanand Himalayan Research and Study Centre at Doon University on Thursday. The centre named after renowned Himalayan geographer Nityanand has been constructed at a cost of Rs 22 crore. The centre is conceived to emerge as a centre for excellence in sustainable development of Himalayan region and aims at integrating science and social science for evidence based decision making and teaching for sustainable development of the region.
