In latest Uttarakhand news, villagers in large numbers, led by some political leaders and Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Kranti Morcha, took out a fire torch rally in evening to vent protest against the administration-launched anti-encroachment drive in Jeolikote in Nainital district. The participants in the rally alleged that the villagers who would trade on both sides of Jeolikote road are being evicted by the administration, citing encroachment of government land. Among the leaders who addressed the protest rally were the former MP and advocate Mahendra Singh Pal and former MLA Narayan Singh Jantwal. The rally started in Nalena village and culminated near Jeolkote market. Addressing the rally, Jantwal said that the State government should first act against the land sharks operating here with impunity. Mahendra Singh Pal and a statehood activist Leela Bora alleged that the State government is bent on destruction in the name of development.
