The police on Monday arrested a tour and travel operator Ravi Kumar Pandey (50), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, on charges of threatening to commit suicide in the transit camp in Rishikesh to allegedly put pressure on the administration for Char Dham registration of pilgrims. The officials informed that Pandey had lured several pilgrims to Rishikesh claiming that he will register them for Char Dham Yatra, to extort money from them. Since the government has closed new registrations for Char Dham pilgrimages this month, the employees at the transit camp refused to register the pilgrims. After this, Pandey started creating chaos at the site and started threatening that he would commit suicide to put pressure on the administration. Despite repeated attempts, he continued to repeat his suicide threats causing a sense of panic and disturbance among the people there. Considering this, the police deployed there imposed a challan on the accused under section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and then arrested him. He will be soon presented before the court, they added.
