Tourism secretary checks status of CM’s announcements in Kumaon

The State’s Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar began his tour of Kumaon region on Thursday to ascertain the status of announcements made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to enhance tourism in the region. On the first day of the tour, the secretary checked the progress of Poornagiri ropeway in Champawat and directed officials to develop river rafting activities in order to connect the locals with employment.Jawalkar also visited Nandhaur wildlife sanctuary, Hanumanchatti, Bhairav Mandir, Tanakpur adventure sports centre, Vivekanand Ashram and Shyamlatal while directing the officials to submit proposals for development on priority basis to the State administration.
He said that the aim of the Tourism department is to develop river rafting in the area while also providing employment opportunities to the local youth. The officials have been directed to expedite work on announcements made by the chief minister for Champawat district. The execution of these announcements will create new employment opportunities while also strengthening the local economy, he said. Jawalkar further said that completion of work on the Poornagiri ropeway will enhance the experience of visitors while also making their journey more convenient. Inspecting the lower terminal of the ropeway at Hanumanchatti, the secretary directed the engineers that further work should be started only after a geotechnical survey is conducted by a team from Indian Institute of Technology. He also directed officials of the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) and Tourism department to submit a proposal for upgradation of the Tourism rest house in Tanakpur.
Apart from this, officials were also directed to submit a proposal for a multi-level parking facility in Tanakpur. Jawalkar directed the district tourism officer and Forest department officials to present a proposal for developing the Nandhaur wildlife sanctuary as an eco-tourism site. In the Boom area, the secretary discussed the development of rafting facilities with those involved in the rafting business. He also directed the officials to present a proposal for development of rafting facilities in the area. While visiting the adventure sports centre in Tanakpur, he directed the water sports expert that an audit of all the equipment should be undertaken. He further said that the adventure sports centre should be operated either under the sub divisional magistrate or in the public private partnership mode so that the local public and businessmen can derive the maximum benefit.
