The number of tourists visiting Nainital on the weekend has seen a considerable drop and is expected to remain so in the coming days too. Those in the tourism business opine that with crores of people thronging the Mahakumbh Mela underway at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, the number of tourists visiting Nainital is expected to remain comparatively low on the weekends.

The tourist footfall in Nainital was considerably low this weekend as more people prefer visiting Prayagraj to attend the Mahakumbh Mela. However, Kainchi Dham in Nainital has emerged as a destination visited by devotees and tourists throughout the year. This is one of the reasons why most hotels in this city are packed on the weekends. The arrival of tourists also continues on the weekdays.

However, this weekend saw a considerably lesser number of tourists in Nainital. Most of the rooms in the hotels here remained unoccupied on Sunday even as many of the popular tourist destinations wore a deserted look. The number of tourists who enjoyed boating on the Naini lake and visitors to the zoo, cave garden, botanical garden and other tourist attractions was considerably low. Most of the parking spaces in the city also remained empty.

Those in the tourism business believe that the number of tourists visiting Nainital is expected to remain low in the coming days too. This trend is likely to continue till the first week of February. The tourist numbers are expected to rise again from the second week of February, they said.
