Three tourists from Uttar Pradesh had a lucky escape in Haldwani when they were able to get out of their car before it was carried away by the torrent in Sher Nala in Chorgalia area here on Friday.
According to the police, Piyush Agrawal from Lakhimpur Kheri and his two friends were driving to Haldwani. While crossing the flooded Sher Nala, the car engine died and the trio managed to lock the vehicle and cross the Nala. The strong current of the water carried the vehicle away.
Traffic on this road was closed during the morning due to the Nala being in spate though it resumed in the late afternoon when the water receded. Rains during the past three days have caused Nalas and mountain streams to flood in various parts.
