Though there has not been any snowfall in the recent past, the winter sports destination Auli is packed with tourists. A considerable number of visitors have arrived here to celebrate the New Year.
The hotels, resorts and homestays in this area have been fully booked online while about 80 per cent of the hotels in lower Auli and Joshimath are fully booked. A large number of tourists have been arriving in Auli since Saturday morning. A long queue of tourists was seen for the chair lift in Auli. Those involved in the tourism and related businesses are enthused by the arrival of tourists. On the other hand, the police and local administration are also alert to ensure that the New Year celebrations are held without any untoward incident.
Police personnel have been deployed on the 14 kilometre motor road between Joshimath and Auli to manage the traffic. The authorities are also monitoring the visitors arriving in hotels, homestays and resorts while also keeping a check on elements which may indulge in hooliganism or harass the tourists. The tourists have been directed to park their vehicles at the designated spot in Auli to prevent any disorder on the road. As there is now snow at Auli, the visitors are also visiting Gorson and the Niti Valley.
