Trading scammers dupe US Nagar resident of Rs 29 lakhs

The cyber crime police station of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested two men for duping an Udham Singh Nagar resident of Rs 29 lakh via online trading scam. They have allegedly duped several people across the country of crores of rupees and were in touch with cyber criminals of other countries too, the senior superintendent of police of STF Navneet Singh said. He informed that the victim from Udham Singh Nagar stated in the complaint in September that he saw an advertisement of an online trading business on Facebook in the month of July 2024 through which he joined an unknown WhatsApp group. He was then added to a group named Pimco Stock.win-win community through a link and was told to open an FPI account. The victim then fraudulently deposited an amount of about Rs 29 lakh in various bank accounts provided by the accused through WhatsApp under the pretext of online trading. The cyber crime police team started the investigation and finally arrested two accused Mohit Nagar and Sunil Kumar Sharma from Delhi on Wednesday.
The SSP said that it was revealed that the accused used commission-based bank accounts to collect the fraudulent amounts. They opened current accounts to carry out their cyber fraud under other people’s names, activated internet banking, and gained full control over the online banking kits. The investigation revealed transactions amounting to Rs 1.5 crore between July 8, 2024 and September 4, 2024 in one of the accused’s bank accounts.
The STF seized four mobile phones and five SIM cards from the accused. It was also found that Sharma had travelled to Cambodia, where he established contact with foreign cybercriminals. The SSP urged citizens to avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information online and to report any suspicious activities immediately to the nearest police station or the cybercrime helpline at 1930.
