Traffic police set up crash investigation cell for scientific investigation of road accidents

Wednesday, 21 December 2022 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Dehradun traffic police have set up a crash investigation cell to conduct a scientific investigation of road accidents to take necessary action on its basis. The Dehradun superintendent of police (traffic) Akshay Konde said that this initiative has been taken considering recurring accident cases across the district. He said that Dehradun traffic police have been using modern technologies to tackle traffic issues like using drones for parking issues, issuing challans for the red light jump through cameras and introduction of speed cameras and a traffic eye app among others.

The launch of the crash investigation cell is another use of modern technologies to conduct a scientific investigation of road accidents. He said that the number of vehicles is consistently increasing in the city and a considerable number of people are also losing their lives in road accidents every year. Though necessary steps are being taken on these issues, such situations make it important to carry out a proper scientific investigation of road accidents that take hundreds of innocent lives, said the SP. According to him, the investigation cell consists of one sub-inspector (SI) and head constable along with five constables and one lady constable. SI Prakash Chandra who is well experienced in traffic issues will lead this cell, informed Konde. “The inquiry of road accidents generally remains limited only to writing an FIR due to police mostly being busy in other cases.

However, through this investigation cell, every accident will be monitored by a senior officer.  The accident will be properly investigated by the team and steps will be taken to ensure the accident does not occur in the same location again due to the same factors,” said Konde.  He said that the cell will take necessary steps to capture the person responsible for the accident besides finding other factors that possibly caused the accident. The traffic police will also coordinate with respective police stations to send reports of the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal ( MACT) to court. He said that the police will also mark those who help accident victims to acknowledge their help by giving awards to them. The report of the same will be sent to senior officials regularly too.
