With challans having failed to curb the people’s tendencies to break traffic rules with impunity, the State transport department has decided to enforce sterner rules on the roads. RTO (administration) Sunil Sharma said that as per the Apex Court rulings, they are going to cancel licenses of the law breakers. Till now licenses of those found on the wrong side of the traffic rules are suspended for three months. But the time has come when the licenses would be cancelled straightaway for breaking traffic rules, Sharma said.
Not just this. After the licenses are cancelled, the breakers of the traffic rules would not be allowed to apply for new licenses for one year.
It is further learnt that drunk driving and reckless driving would be sternly dealt with to ensure traffic safety on the roads. Under the Motor Vehicles Act revised by the Central government, there is a provision of cancellation of licenses in case the driver is found guilty involving an accident. Sharma further said that the same applies too to those who can bring about accidents. He said that in case of drunk driving, reckless or dangerous driving, no hearing would be held. He informed that non-wearing of helmets or triple riding involving two-wheelers would be punished by three months’ cancellation of driving licenses.
