Traffic to be diverted between Shimla Bypass and Mehuwala Road for one week

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
The Dehradun district administration has issued a traffic diversion plan for Shimla Bypass to Mehuwala Road due to proposed drainage pipeline installation work by Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL). The diversion will be in effect from April 18 to April 24, starting at 7 AM daily until the completion of work.
As per the traffic plan issued by the Dehradun police, traffic coming from Nayagaon will be redirected towards Saint Jude Chowk via Alka Dairy through the Sewla Kalan cut. Vehicles heading from Saint Jude Chowk towards Shimla Bypass will be diverted to Nayagaon Road using the opposite side of the road. Entry of heavy vehicles from Saint Jude Chowk towards Kamla Palace will be completely restricted. No traffic will be allowed from Saint Jude Chowk to Alka Dairy and such traffic will instead be routed through Sewla Kalan Road. In case of heavy traffic at Alka Dairy, vehicles moving from Kamla Palace to Saint Jude Chowk may be partially diverted towards Patel Nagar Mandi. Barriers and diversion points will be set up at Saint Jude Chowk, Alka Dairy, Sewla Kalan Road Cut and Kamla Palace Tiraaha. Authorities have urged commuters to follow the traffic instructions during the diversion period.
The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal informed that the drainage system and sewer cleaning work is being carried out on a war footing from ISBT Chowk to Outfall in Dehradun. The drainage line being laid by DSCL is 1600 mm in diameter. The project includes connecting it to an older ADB-constructed sewer line from 2015-16, currently maintained by the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan. This line has choked near Muskan Hotel Point, causing overflow and waterlogging in nearby areas.
To address the issue, the DSCL team is laying the new drainage line and fixing the choke point, as per the DM. He further stated that the officers from the departments concerned will remain deployed at the site 24×7. The work will continue day and night for the next seven days. Any violation of the orders will be dealt with under the Disaster Management Act, he added.
