Traffic woes escalate on various roads of Dehradun

Dehradun has been grappling with severe traffic congestion in recent days with major roads like Haridwar Road, East Canal Road and areas near Ghantaghar, Parade Ground and Dharampur facing significant traffic jams. Traffic remained disrupted due to multiple rallies on Wednesday too. Many commuters expressed their frustration with the city’s traffic situation deteriorating in recent days. Responding to this, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh also agreed that the traffic situation has gotten worse, especially after the Rakshabandhan festival on Monday, which saw a surge in the number of vehicles on the road. He said that he personally visited some roads in the city and inspected the traffic conditions there. He said that he observed during inspection that vehicles using the cuts between Rispana and Mohkampur Flyover were causing the traffic to halt, leading to unnecessary delays and increased traffic pressure. Considering this issue, the SSP ordered the traffic police to close two key road cuts- Kailash Hospital Cut and Govind Hospital Cut on Haridwar Road. This move is aimed at ensuring a smoother flow of vehicles and minimising traffic disruptions on this busy road. He claimed that the decision to close these cuts was necessary due to the growing volume of traffic and the need to prevent congestion caused by vehicles making U-turns or crossing lanes through these cuts. However, Singh added, two-wheelers will still be allowed to pass through the Kailash Hospital Cut while all other vehicles entering the city must now take a U-turn from under the Mohkampur Flyover to proceed towards the city area. These measures are expected to ease the traffic situation and provide some relief to the city’s commuters, he added.
