The Transport department took action against 325 vehicle users for traffic violations during a special enforcement drive carried out across the Dehradun city on Friday. The campaign was launched in response to ongoing complaints about reckless and rule-violating drivers operating without proper documents and licenses, the regional transport officer (Enforcement) of Dehradun division Anita Chamola said. She informed that a one-day drive began on Friday from early morning and until late afternoon. The operation covered areas including ISBT, GMS Road, Saharanpur Road, Tunawala, Balliwala, Bidholi-Kothal Gate, Premnagar, Rajpur Road and the Dehradun-Haridwar highway, with involvement from various enforcement officers and local police.

During the campaign, officers issued challans to 217 drivers for driving without a license, 279 for not wearing helmets, 108 for operating without valid documents and 17 for triple riding. Action was also taken against 258 vehicles for other license-related violations while three drivers were found operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol. These three were charged under Section 199 of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, which allows for legal proceedings and license suspension for up to three months. They were also fined Rs 25,000 each. Chamola said that similar campaigns will continue in the future to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
