Transport department checks school buses and cabs for violations

Taking cognisance of several complaints against vehicles carrying school students, the Transport department has started its checking campaign in four districts- Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri and Uttarkashi. The enforcement teams of the regional transport office (RTO) of the Dehradun division commenced this campaign on Monday against the vehicles carrying students to ensure their safe commuting on weekdays.
The teams checked over 100 vehicles and imposed penalties on vehicle operators of about 50 school buses and cabs in the past two days. The regional transport officer (enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari said that the RTO’s initiative is aimed at checking issues like overloading in vehicles that carry students and whether they follow all protocols. He said, “Our teams are focussing on all necessary parameters to ensure students’ safety.
The officials are checking all necessary documents of cabs and buses carrying students daily. He said that the enforcement team in Dehradun penalised 15 school buses, 21 school cabs, five private vans and seized two of them. He said that the department will also coordinate with school administration and vehicle owners to ensure they have all necessary documents and follow rules for children’s safety.
