The Uttarakhand Transport Department is all set to start an online service with new software to issue green cards to vehicles with up to 10 seats visiting Char Dham from next month. As per the officials, the drivers of the commercial vehicles who would be going to Char Dham Yatra in May would be provided with an online service to apply for a green card. The commercial drivers of up to 10 seater vehicles will get auto-approval for the green card after providing required details and online fee submission.
The drivers of commercial vehicles of more than 10 seats can apply online for the green cards too but they will have to bring their vehicle for the fitness test in the transport office to get the green card. Informing about this, the regional transport officer (enforcement) of Dehradun, Sandeep Saini said that the transport department has prepared the software to issue green cards online and a trial session has also been done. After the State Government’s approval for the software within the next few days, the department would start the procedure to make it available online, stated Saini. According to the officials, about 70 per cent of vehicles that register for green cards during the Char Dham Yatra are small vehicles up to 10 seats. During the surging Covid-19 cases in the State, the auto-approval procedure of the vehicles will minimise the risk of contagion in the premises of the transport offices, stated officials.
Meanwhile, the officials also informed that the department is also working on the digitisation of the 12 lakh files that are stored in the various rooms of the transport office building in Rajpur. Apart from storing the old data in digital form, the transport office is also planning to commence some new services online in order to restrict the rush in the premises of the RTO. The procedure is still under process and as per the officials, the services would be made available soon after the approval of the state administration.
