Transport department issues green cards to over 8,644 vehicles for Char Dham Yatra

The Transport department has issued green cards to over 8,644 vehicle operators to operate on Char Dham routes since April 4 ahead of the Char Dham Yatra that is scheduled to commence on May 10. The department has collected a revenue of over Rs 56 lakh so far. Out of 8,644 green cards issued so far, 7,849 have been issued to operators from Uttarakhand and 795 green cards to operators of other states. The department has issued 1,344 green cards to buses, 1,226 to mini buses, 1,566 to maxi cabs and 4,510 to taxis, the nodal officer of Char Dham Yatra and the regional transport officer (Administration) Sunil Sharma said. Besides this, the department has so far issued trip cards to 601 vehicles carrying 5,661 passengers. He said that enforcement teams have established four main checkposts on Char Dham routes at Brahmapuri, Bhadrakali, Kuthal Gate and Damta and have started conducting regular checkings of vehicles. The teams have checked over 354 vehicles and penalised 37 vehicles. The department has also deployed 20 enforcement squads on Char Dham routes to ensure safe journeys for tourists and pilgrims in mountainous areas.
