The transport department has issued over 1,150 green cards in the past 10 days to the commercial drivers for Char Dham Yatra which started in Uttarakhand on September 18. The deputy transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh informed that the department has received over 1,550 online applications for green cards since the Char Dham Yatra has started in the state.
The department has issued over 1,150 green cards up to now while more than 200 applications are still pending, stated Singh. As per the data provided by the department, the top three transport offices where the numbers of green cards issued by the officials are the highest so far are Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun with 479, 466 and 138 cards respectively. He informed that the department has received over Rs 7,40,000 as the green card fees too. Earlier this year, the department had decided to issue green cards for up to 10 seater commercial vehicles through the online auto-approval procedure without any physical checking in the regional transport offices (RTOs) as according to the officials, most of the applications for green cards are from commercial vehicles up to 10 seats.
However, all kinds of passenger vehicles are being issued green cards after their physical fitness is being checked in their respective transport offices after the recent orders of the transport secretary Ranjit Sinha. Singh said that the decision was taken to ensure the smooth operation of all passenger vehicles in the mountainous regions. Besides this, the department is issuing trip cards, conducting regular checking on all the checkpoints and taking all the possible measures to make the pilgrims’ journey secure and comfortable throughout Char Dham Yatra this year, added Singh.
