Transport department seizes five luxury buses for carrying passengers against rules

The Transport department seized five luxury buses carrying passengers illegally from Dehradun to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and other nearby States. The department seized these buses from near Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Haridwar Bypass over the weekend after getting several complaints against their illegal operation, the regional transport officer (Enforcement) of Dehradun division Shailesh Tiwari said. Besides this, the department also penalised 52 Vikram and auto rickshaw operators for violations.
The RTO said that the department was also getting complaints regarding the illegal operation, overloading and lack of valid documents of Vikram and auto rickshaws. Considering this, four teams were formed to take action against such violations. The checking campaign was mainly conducted on Cantt- Chakrata Road- Premnagar route, Rajpur-Raipur route, Dharampur route and Saharanpur-Haridwar Bypass route under the supervision of ARTO Rajendra Viratiya, transport tax officer MD Papnoi and transport officers Shweta Rautahn and Anuradha Pant respectively.
Tiwari said that many drivers even stopped operation during the checking period and parked their vehicles in nearby alleys. He said that the teams issued challans to 52 Vikrams and auto rickshaws and seized four three-wheelers. The violations mainly included the operation of vehicles without permits, valid licenses and overloading. Tiwari said that the department will continue its efforts to ensure the safety of public transport operations in the division. A similar campaign will be started soon in other districts too, he added.
