The Transport department launched a special drive on main routes of Dehradun on Wednesday after the fatal accident near ONGC intersection in which six youths were killed reportedly due to overspeeding.  The teams issued challans to 71 vehicle owners for overspeeding, the regional transport officer (Enforcement) OF Dehradun division Shailesh Tiwari said. He informed that the drive was conducted on routes including the Haridwar Road, Chakrata Road and Saharanpur Road under the supervision of transport officer MD Papnoi, along with transport officers Shweta Rauthan and Anuradha Pant to enforce traffic rules and ensure safety. During the drive, the team employed advanced technology including an interceptor vehicle and speed radar guns to monitor and penalise drivers exceeding speed limits. A total of 71 vehicles were challaned for violating speed regulations, as part of the ongoing efforts to improve road safety in the region. Beside this, the department also announced another intensive campaign during the day and at night on November 14. Tiwari informed that a total of eight teams will be deployed across the city, including teams from neighbouring districts. These teams will focus on a range of traffic violations, including rash driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, overspeeding, using mobile phones while driving, overloading and not wearing helmets or seat belts. The RTO said that the department is determined to take strict action to control accidents and promote safer driving practices on Dehradun’s roads, particularly with the increased presence of checking teams in the coming days.
