The Transport department has formed a committee under the regional transport officers (RTOs) of Dehradun, Pauri, and Haldwani to take decision on the proposal to increase the fare of public transport every year.The department has also issued an order to bring uniformity in the rules regarding issuance of permits for public transport vehicles across the State. These and other decisions were taken in the meeting of the State Transport Authority (STA) on Friday.
The STA approved the proposal of bringing uniformity in permit issuance as the process of getting the permit for the same vehicles is different in many areas. The STA has decided to issue order to all the divisional transport authorities of the State to issue permits to all commercial vehicles like taxis, cabs, Vikram among others as per the liberal policy except to the vehicles carrying stage carriage permits. The department has also decided to introduce the Rent a Cab Scheme, 1989 in the State which will boost tourism in the State and generate employment opportunities and revenue for the department.
