Though the one week period for the transporters to apply for the monetary aid of Rs 2,000 has recently ended, the transport department is likely to extend it this weekend due to the failed transactions of some beneficiaries across the state.
The department had issued orders on November 11 that the website is being reopened for one week mainly for those beneficiaries who could not receive the said amount in their accounts due to incorrect bank account details and technical errors. The officials had also stated it to be the last chance for the transporters to be the beneficiaries under the programme.
The officials said that though the department has received over 6,000 new applications this week, many are yet to reapply. “The department has also received the details of some more beneficiaries with failed transactions. Due to this, they will have to apply again to get the benefit of the monetary aid. Though this number is less this time, the department will have to reopen the website for the re-registration process once again. A meeting is scheduled on Saturday with officials concerned to discuss the ongoing progress of the programme and how much more time should be provided for the re-registration process this time,” said the deputy transport commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh.
In the first phase of the programme, the department marked a total of 36,100 eligible beneficiaries and has issued the first instalment to about 31,000 beneficiaries so far. In the second and third phases, the department has marked about 5,000 new beneficiaries who will receive their first instalment soon too. The total number of marked beneficiaries is about 40,000 so far and according to the deputy commissioner, there will be no substantial increase in the number further as most of the potential beneficiaries have already applied.
