Transport dept orders RTOs to recover 50 % pending tax before Dec 31

In order to speed up the process of recovering the revenue from the commercial vehicle owners, the transport department has directed the regional transport officers to collect at least 50 per cent of the pending revenue by the end of this month. The regional transport officer (administration) Dinesh Chandra Pathoi informed that officers of all the transport offices are presently preparing the list of defaulters with a larger amount of pending revenue.

They are being informed to deposit their pending tax and the regional transport office (RTO) is also issuing notices to them. Pathoi informed that the RTO has issued chaspa notices of 200 defaulters with larger pending tax along with 1,900 defaulters in notice boards. According to him, there are about 22,500 vehicles owners who have not deposited their taxes in RTO Dehradun. He said that the RTO is also writing to the district magistrate for the recovery of pending tax from such 2,300 vehicle owners as land revenue in the initial phase. 

He also informed that the defaulters will have to pay extra if the tax is recovered by DM as the land revenue as per the norms. He has appealed to all the defaulters to pay their taxes by January 31, 2022 or the department will take legal action against the defaulters under the relevant acts. He said that the transport officers have also been issued orders to take actions to increase the recovery tax and collect at least 50 per cent of the pending revenue in their respective areas this month.
