The transport commissioner of Uttarakhand Arvind Singh Hyanki has asked the Transport departments of eight other states to spread awareness about the guidelines and regulations of the Char Dham Yatra in their respective states. This is to ensure that people do not face inconveniences in Uttarakhand when they arrive to visit Char Dham shrines, Hemkund Sahib and other places. He informed that a letter has been sent to eight states- Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh from where a large number of pilgrims and tourists arrive in the State every year. It has been observed that many pilgrims from these states arrive in heavy vehicles like truck and tractor trolleys which is inconvenient, unsafe and against the rules. The government has directed all the enforcement officers of Uttarakhand to take action against such vehicles entering the State. Since the passengers travelling in such vehicles will have to face trouble in such conditions, the respective transport departments must raise public awareness in respective states. The officials should also ensure before issuing permits to the bus operators to operate on mountainous routes that the structure of buses is as per the standards set by the Uttarakhand State Transport Authority (STA). To minimise the possibility of road accidents, the drivers of cabs will not be allowed to play music during their operation on the road. The bus operators can play music on the bus but it should be managed by the conductor. It will also be compulsory to place dustbins in each commercial vehicle. Besides this, the use of inflammable materials like large size batteries and LPG cylinders is also banned for safety reasons. Hyanki said that he has sent a whole list of Dos and Don’ts on the road during Char Dham Yatra to these states for easy reference.
