A trekker died at Gauchar in Chamoli district while he was returning from the Rudranath trek amid heavy rain. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) retrieved his body from a 200-metre deep gorge in the wee hours of Thursday. The officials informed that the police received information late on Wednesday that a man named Omender Singh (48), a resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, slipped on his way while returning from the trek and fell into the deep gorge. The search and rescue team of SDRF was called to the spot from the Gauchar post. The team reached there under the supervision of sub inspector Manmohan Singh. The officials informed that the accident spot was nearly eight kilometres away from the main road and the team had to face difficulties in reaching there through a difficult route in the dark while it was heavily raining. It took considerable time for the team to reach the body after steep climbing down to 200-metre deep gorge while it was raining.  The personnel found the trekker dead and prepared an alternative stretcher to retrieve the body. They took out the body to the main road and handed it over to the district police.
