The trend of the party winning from Badrinath Assembly constituency forming the State government was broken this year in Uttarakhand. In the past Assembly elections, the party which won from the Badrinath constituency also formed the State government. However, in the 2022 Assembly elections, Congress candidate Rajendra Bhandari defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate and sitting MLA Mahendra Bhatt in Badrinath. With the BJP set to form the new government in Uttarakhand, the trend connected to the Badrinath seat has also been broken this time.
In the 2002 Assembly polls, Congress candidate Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri had won from this seat after which the Congress had formed the State government. In the 2007 elections, Kedar Singh Fonia of the BJP had won from this seat following which the BJP had formed the State government. Similarly, Congress formed the government after its candidate Rajendra Bhandari won from Badrinath in the 2012 elections. In the previous elections, BJP’s Mahendra Bhatt had won from this constituency following which the BJP had formed the State government. However, this time, Congress candidate Rajendra Bhandari has won from Badrinath but the BJP is all set to form the new state government.
