Tributes paid to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on birth anniversary

Tributes were paid to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary on Thursday. A programme was organised under the aegis of the Pradesh Congress Seva Dal at Rajiv Bhawan on the day.

Addressing the programme, the general secretary (Organization) Rajendra Singh Bhandari said that late Rajiv Gandhi was the father of the information revolution in India. “He sacrificed everything for India’s unity and integrity, establishing the country among powerful and prosperous nations. He initiated the initiative to empower the Panchayats by amending the Constitution, giving voting rights to the youth, connecting them with the mainstream of the country and strengthening India’s democracy,’’ he said.

Bhandari said that Rajiv Gandhi also laid the foundation for making India an economic superpower and a leader in the field of Information Technology.

Seva Dal president Hema Purohit said that the dream of the late Rajiv Gandhi was to take India into the 21st century has now come true. Describing the late Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of modern India, she said that Gandhi laid the foundation for India’s economic superpower. “He initiated the initiative to strengthen India’s democracy by granting voting rights to young people aged 18 and above and connecting them to the mainstream of the country. Thanks to his initiatives, Indian women are now playing a vital role in the country’s development,’’ she said.

 Rajendra Shah, Vinod Chauhan, Sonia Anand, Sujata Paul, Neeraj Tyagi, Jaswinder Singh Gogi, Pratima Singh and other leaders attended the programme.
