Truck driver & helper die after vehicle falls down mountainside

A truck driver and his helper died when the truck they were in fell off the road and down the mountainside near Bachelikhal on the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway late on Monday night. The local police team which reached the site extracted the injured duo from the gorge and sent them for treatment to the hospital where they were declared dead.

According to official sources, a truck bring driven from Srinagar to Rishikesh met with an accident near Bachelikhal. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at about 11 PM. As a result, the vehicle fell about 200 metres down the mountainside. The Devprayag police station received information about some noise and boulders falling between Teendhara and Bachelikhal. Acting on the information the police went to the site and found that about two to three kilometres from Teendhara towards Rishikesh, a truck number UK 12 CA 1267 had fallen into a deep gorge.

The driver and helper were found to be seriously injured. The rescue team used ropes and stretchers to rescue the seriously injured duo. They were sent to the nearest hospital where the doctors declared both of them dead. The two have been identified as Manjkot Tehri resident Rakesh Singh (34) and Margaon Pauri resident Ravindra Lal (26). On Tuesday the police sent the two bodies for post mortem examination to Srinagar. The exact cause of the mishap is now yet known.
