In latest news from Doon, spurred by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India call, the former chief minister and the BJP candidate for Haridwar Trivendra Singh Rawat chose to file his nomination papers online flanked by the incumbent Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank among others at the BJP’s election office in Haridwar. Those close to him hailed this move as a call to all, saying that the nomination filing has been completed quietly in a room sans noise and on- the- road show of strength triggering terrific traffic congestion thereafter.
Notably, this is the first time when the Election Commission has provided online option to the candidates for Lok Sabha election nomination. Out of the five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand, this facility has been made available to the candidates only in Haridwar and Tehri constituencies.
