The statement of former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat in which he had termed the comment made by the Parliamentary Affairs minister Premchand Agarwal on the people of mountainous areas of the State as highly deplorable has given a tool to the opposition Congress to attack the BJP government.
Rawat, who is Member of Parliament from Haridwar Lok Sabha constituency had raised deep concern on the comment of the minister and had said that no person holding a responsible position should make such utterances.
The leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Yashpal Arya said that the stand taken by the former CM Rawat is appreciable. He told The Pioneer that the criticism of Rawat who apart from being a former CM and incumbent member of parliament is a senior leader of BJP shows that there is anger and discomfort in the ruling party over conduct of minister Agarwal.
Arya said that Agarwal should publicly apologise for his abusive language and unparliamentary behaviour. He added that the Congress never believes in politics of caste, religion and region and works for all sections of the society.
The chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni said that the former CM Rawat has correctly reprimanded minister Agarwal. She said that the people of the State are very annoyed at the Minister for using foul language. Dasauni also accused the BJP of playing divisive politics.
