Tungnath to reopen for devotees on May 17

The portals of the Shiva temple situated at the highest altitude in the world- Tungnath will be reopened for the summer to the public on May 17. The date for reopening of this shrine was arrived at ritually after consulting the traditional Hindu calendar and astrological calculations at Makkumath here on the occasion of Baisakhi on Wednesday.
As per the schedule decided, the ceremonial procession of lord Tungnath will begin on May 14 after the priests ritually worship him and bring him out of the sanctum sanctorum of his winter abode. The procession will then rest at the Bhutnath temple in Paukhani after which it will reach the Bhutnath temple in Makku on the next day and after passing through various areas rest for the night at Chopta on May 16. On the next day the ceremonial palanquin of the lord will reach the Tungnath temple which will be opened for the summer at 12 PM for the next six months.
