A young Tusker was electrocuted to death in a village when it touched the wires of an 11 KV power line in Haldwani on Tuesday. The incident happened in the Supi Bhagwanpur village of Padampur Devalia located adjacent to the Tarai central forest division. The village Pradhan informed the forest officers about the death of the male elephant after which officers of the department visited the spot and conducted the post mortem on the dead elephant. The divisional forest officer (DFO), Vaibhav Kumar said that the elephant was electrocuted when it had strayed into a farm of sugarcane. He said that the sagging wires of the 11 KV power line are being studied and if they are found not up to the standards, the department would take action against the power corporation. Kumar claimed that the local residents had complained about the sagging wires with the department concerned but no action was taken. When contacted the executive engineer of Power Corporation, Sanjay Prasad said that the incident occurred at around 4.45 am. He claimed that the wires were in proper condition but probably the pole got tilted and the raised trunk of the Tusker touched the line.
