Two accused nabbed after encounter with police in Haridwar

The Haridwar police shot one accused and arrested him along with another accused on Saturday night after an attack on a student of Gurukul Kangri University. Five other accused are absconding with the police searching for them.

Late on Saturday night, the Jwalapur Kotwali in-charge Pradeep Bisht was leading a team which was conducting checks in search for a Scorpio SUV in which the accused who had attacked the university student and shot rounds in the air, had escaped. The police team was in Bahadrabad when it saw a suspicious vehicle approach and signalled the driver to halt. According to the police, the men inside the car fired at the police and then ran away. When the police gave chase, an accused fired again on the police, in response to which the police returned fire and shot one man on the leg. The other accused managed to take advantage of the darkness to escape from the site. The police sent the injured accused by a private vehicle to the district hospital. Senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal also reached the site of the encounter and later visited the hospital to question the injured accused. The SSP said that he had been identified as Meerut resident Nishkarsh, adding that another accused Udairaj, also from Meerut was also nabbed by the police. The police are conducting combing operations and searches for the five absconding accused.
