The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) prevented an attempt to cheat in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) assistant teacher recruitment examination for mathematics and arrested two members of the gang involved. The STF apprehended the mastermind of the gang, Udham Singh and his accomplice Anupam Kumar before they could carry out their plan to replace a candidate in the exam with another candidate to solve the examination paper, the STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal said. He stated that the STF learned through a tip-off that the accused Singh, a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, had planned to facilitate cheating in the assistant teacher recruitment examination held on August 18, 2024. The SSP said, “Singh, who had been jailed for similar crimes in UP in the past, had struck a deal worth Rs 16 lakh to have Kumar sit in the examination in place of a candidate named Kuldeep Singh. The STF closely monitored the situation and deployed teams in Haridwar. On the day of the exam on Sunday, the STF arrested both accused outside the exam centre at SVM Inter College in Haridwar. They were found in possession of a forged admit card and three mobile phones.” During interrogation, Singh confessed to organising the cheating scheme and revealed his involvement in past recruitment examination scams as well, Agrawal said. He stated that the STF registered a case under the Anti- Copying Law, Uttarakhand Competitive Examination (Measures for Prevention and Redressal of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act 2023 and plans to investigate further based on the information gathered so far during interrogation.
