Two B Tech students drown in Alaknanda river

Two B Tech students from Bihar lost their lives after drowning in the Alaknanda river near Srinagar in Pauri district on Wednesday. Another student, who was also reportedly caught in the strong currents of the river, was rescued and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, the officials said. They informed that victims, identified as Harshbraj Kaushik (19) and Ayush Raj (20), were first year B Tech students at Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Srinagar and hailed from Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
The rescued student, Divyanshu Yadav (20), a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh is pursuing B Pharma and is receiving medical care at the hospital, as per the officials. They informed that four students had gone near the river to bathe when three of them were swept into deeper waters on Wednesday afternoon. A local youth named Kunal informed the police about the drowning, following which the police immediately alerted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
A joint rescue operation was launched by SDRF, PAC and the police. The officials informed that the rescue team managed to pull out all three students from the water and rushed them to the government base hospital of Srikot. However, doctors declared Kaushik and Raj dead upon arrival and started Yadav’s treatment who is now stable, as per the officials.
