Two dead, nine injured after jeep falls off road

Vehicle was carrying villagers to operate mules in Kedarnath
Two persons died and nine were injured when a jeep carrying residents of Pana and Irani villages going to operate mules in Kedarnath met with an accident on Sunday. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital in Gopeshwar from where two seriously injured persons were referred to a higher centre.
A large number of people from villages in Chamoli district also go to Kedarnath for operating mules during the Char Dham Yatra. Such a group of youth from the Pana and Irani villages departed along with their horses and mules for Kedarnath on Sunday. They found a jeep en route and 10 youths boarded the vehicle while some of their friends were following them on foot along with the animals.
The Max jeep fell off the road into a ravine near Gadi village at about 1:30 PM. The local villagers reached the site on hearing the noise of the accident and started extracting the injured persons. The police also reached the site on being informed and with the help of the villagers, sent all the injured by ambulances and other vehicles to the district hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared Irani residents Sanjay Negi (24) and Tikendra Ram (23) dead. The nine injured persons were admitted to the district hospital from where two seriously injured persons were referred to a higher centre. On learning of the accident, joint magistrate Abhinav Shah also reached the hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured persons.
