Two men died and one sustained injuries after a car fell into a gorgeous about 200 metres deep near Jamrani Bend at Dholachina in the Almora district late on Monday night. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was alerted through the Almora district control room that dispatched a rescue team from the Sariyapani post, led by assistant sub-inspector Mahipal Singh, equipped with essential rescue tools.

The commandant of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Arpan Yaduvanshi said that the accident involved a vehicle that lost control and plunged about 200 metres into a deep gorge near Jamrani Bend. Out of the three individuals in the vehicle, one was rescued in an injured state by locals before the SDRF team’s arrival and rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The two other passengers were found deceased at the scene. Yaduvanshi said that despite the pitch darkness and challenging terrain, the SDRF team worked tirelessly to recover the bodies from the gorge in the wee hours of Tuesday. After a strenuous rescue operation, the team retrieved the remains and handed them over to the district police for identification and further procedures.

The injured individual, identified as Pushkar Singh Bhandari, a resident of Naugaon, is currently undergoing treatment. The two deceased were identified as Manoj Singh Bisht and Ajay Singh Bisht, both residents of Naugaon. Yaduvanshi has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially during night time journeys in winter.
