Two dead, one injured in road accident in Roorkee

A speeding Uttarakhand Roadways bus reportedly caused an accident in Roorkee resulting in the death of two people. One person was critically injured in the accident on Tuesday. The incident occurred near a petrol pump in the Dhandhera area where the driver of the bus, from the Rishikesh depot reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake and collided with two motorcycles and a scooter, as per the officials.
They informed that the victims were identified as Pankaj (28), a resident of Mathana village in Khanpur area of Laksar, and a 60-year-old man Tikaram from Shivaji Nagar, Dhandhera. Both were killed on the spot. Akash, a resident of Mohanpura, sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Roorkee for treatment, the officials said. They stated that the collision sparked chaos as locals rushed to the scene with an angry crowd gathering to protest the negligence. They reportedly blocked the road and caused a traffic jam and demanded justice.
The senior police officials, including Roorkee Circle Officer Narendra Pant and respective police station in-charge Narendra Bisht also reached the spot to intervene to pacify the situation and clear the jam. The officials informed that the driver of the bus fled the scene after the accident. Police have seized the vehicle and sent the deceased for post-mortem examination. The officials said that the police are investigating the incident to determine the circumstances and locate the absconding driver.
