Two die in separate accidents in Pithoragarh & Rudraprayag

Accidents on mountain roads in Pithoragarh and Rudraprayag resulted in the deaths of two men in two separate incidents on Wednesday. The officials said that the district control room in Pithoragarh informed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) about an accident on Munsiyari Road near Baram, where a car had plunged about 200 metres into a deep gorge late on Tuesday.
The vehicle’s only occupant, the driver, identified as Virendra Singh Martolia (45), resident of Saring, Munsiyari, was reported to have died at the scene. The officials said that upon receiving the alert, an SDRF team led by sub inspector Dungar Singh reached the spot from the Askot post. The team accessed the accident site using alternative paths and managed to retrieve the deceased’s body. The remains were transported to the main road on a stretcher and handed over to the local police, they added. Another accident occurred near Rauthiya on the Jawadi Bypass in Rudraprayag on Wednesday.
The officials said that a vehicle, carrying only one passenger, lost control while travelling from the bypass towards Rudraprayag and fell about 200 metres down a gorge. The SDRF search and rescue team was called at the spot led by SI Dharmendra Panwar. The team navigated alternative routes to retrieve the body. The body was transported to the main road using a body bag which was later handed over to the police. The deceased was identified as Umed Singh Negi (52), resident of Fadkiya village, Rudraprayag, they added.
