Two die in separate accidents in Uttarakhand

A truck driver from Haridwar died in the wee hours of Monday after his truck fell into a 150 metre deep gorge in the Kalsi area of the Dehradun district. The police also recovered a body of a local man from the Kosi river near Ramnagar of Nainital district. The officials said that the police received information about an accident in the Kalsi area around 12 AM on Monday and a team was sent immediately to the accident spot. The police called the rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to carry out a search operation for the victim. The police along with SDRF retrieved the body of the victim. The officials said that he had died on the spot. His body was sent to the mortuary to carry out necessary procedures as per the law. The officials said that it was revealed in the preliminary inquiry that the deceased identified as Meen Bahadur Thapa (42) had gone to Uttarkashi from Haridwar to supply Namkeen and was returning with the empty truck when he reportedly lost control and fell into a gorge near Vyasi Dam towards Lakhwar bend. The police have informed the owner of the truck and the family of the deceased and will hand over the body soon after the completion of the required procedures, added the officials. The body of a man identified as Nihal Ram was retrieved from the Kosi river near Ramnagar on Monday. The officials said that Ram was a local who had drowned in the river on Monday. The SDRF rescue team conducted a search operation on Sunday at all possible places but could not find his body. The team conducted the search operation on Monday and retrieved the body from the Kosi barrage.
