Two die, three injured after vehicle falls into gorge in Rajpur

Two persons died and three sustained serious injuries after the car they were travelling in fell into a gorge near Shikhar Fall in the Rajpur area on Monday morning. The officials informed that the Rajpur police station received information about a vehicle falling into a gorge at Shikhar Fall around 3 AM. A police team reached the accident spot and called the search and rescue team of the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) to start the rescue and relief operation. The SDRF with the help of the police and local people pulled out five persons from the gorge after considerable effort. The police found out that two persons had died on the spot and the remaining three were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The two deceased were identified as Dehradun resident merchant navy officer Ayush Sharma (30) and a cafe operator on Mussoorie Road, Avni Kukreti (29) who lived in Dalanwala area. The injured persons include two Dehradun residents Yuvraj Bisht (33) and Isha (28) and a Delhi resident Sagar Narula (30). The officials informed that Bisht and Narula were admitted to the Max Hospital and Isha was admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (Coronation) Hospital. The officials said that according to the injured victims, they had come to Shikhar Fall for sightseeing in their vehicle but when they were returning home, the brakes failed and the vehicle fell into the gorge.
