An ONGC worker and another man were arrested in Dehradun for possession of smack worth Rs10 lakh. The accused, identified as Neeraj Singh (30), a contractual worker at ONGC and Pushpit Shukla (24) were intercepted near IT Park Gate on Dhoran Road on Friday.

The officials said that acting on a tip-off, police stopped the two men, who were riding a scooty, and recovered 32 grammes of smack, an electronic weighing scale, 40 small packets of smack and Rs 10,620 in cash. During interrogation, it was revealed that both men had been involved in drug trafficking for a considerable period, lured by the prospect of high profits. They reportedly sourced the smack from areas such as Moradabad, Najibabad and Haridwar and supplied it to various clients in Dehradun, including college students and young addicts.

The accused also disclosed that their supplier was a man named Arun, from whom they regularly procured the narcotics. The drugs were repackaged into smaller packets to be sold at higher prices, as per the officials. They informed that the accused Singh hails from the Katkot village in Ranipokhari, Dehradun, while Shukla is a resident of Badshahpur village in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. Both men had been allegedly distributing the narcotics across various parts of Dehradun, targeting young individuals in educational institutions.

The police have registered a case against them under the NDPS Act and an investigation to identify other members of the drug network is ongoing.
